Description
AQUACEL® Hydrofiber® Ribbon Dressing, White
AQUACEL® Hydrofiber® Ribbon Dressing, White is a sterile, soft ribbon wound dressing designed to manage exudate and support an optimal moist wound environment. While often selected alongside alginate dressings for exudate control, this product is made with Hydrofiber® Technology that transforms into a cohesive gel when in contact with wound fluid. This gel formation helps absorb and retain exudate, conform to wound contours, and reduce the risk of leakage and maceration of surrounding skin. The ribbon format is intended for packing and filling depth, making it suitable for wounds with undermining, tunneling, or cavity components when used according to clinical judgment.
How it works
On contact with exudate, the Hydrofiber® material absorbs fluid and converts into a soft gel. This helps lock in wound fluid and debris within the dressing, supporting gentle removal and minimizing disturbance to newly forming tissue. By conforming closely to the wound bed, the dressing can help reduce dead space and improve contact, which may support more consistent fluid handling compared with dressings that do not gel or conform. The dressing is intended to be used with an appropriate secondary cover dressing to help secure it and provide additional protection.
Intended use and wound types
The ribbon dressing is intended for use on moderate to heavily exuding wounds and is commonly chosen for cavity wounds or wounds requiring packing. It may be considered for a range of acute and chronic wounds where exudate management is needed, including pressure injuries, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, and donor sites, as appropriate. Selection should be based on a full wound and patient assessment, including exudate level, depth, and risk factors for infection.
Key features
- Hydrofiber® gel formation: Absorbs exudate and forms a cohesive gel to help retain fluid and support moist healing.
- Ribbon design: Suitable for packing sinuses, tunnels, undermining, and cavity wounds while conforming to wound geometry.
- Exudate handling: Helps reduce lateral wicking and may help protect periwound skin from maceration.
- Gentle removal: Gel cohesion can support removal with less disruption to the wound bed when used correctly.
- White, sterile presentation: Supplied as a sterile dressing for single use.
Application considerations
Pack the ribbon lightly to fill the wound space without overpacking, which can cause pressure and impede healing. Leave a visible tail of ribbon to facilitate removal. A suitable secondary dressing is required to secure the ribbon and manage moisture balance. Dressing change frequency depends on exudate levels and clinical condition; the dressing should be changed when clinically indicated, such as when saturated, when strikethrough occurs, or per local protocol.
Precautions and compatibility
Use with caution in dry or minimally exuding wounds, as hydration may be required to support gel formation. If signs of infection occur or if the wound deteriorates, reassess the care plan and consult a clinician. Do not reuse; single-use only. Always follow the product instructions for use and applicable clinical guidelines.
Product summary
AQUACEL® Hydrofiber® Ribbon Dressing, White provides conformable packing and high exudate management through gel-forming Hydrofiber® Technology. It is a practical choice within advanced wound care where cavity filling and fluid handling are priorities, and where a secure secondary dressing and routine monitoring are part of best practice.
